Frequently Asked Questions
Services
Q: What subjects do you tutor? A: I specialize in tutoring for university-level mathematics, business, economics, and statistics courses. My primary focus is tutoring for students at my alma mater, the University of Michigan. You can view a current list of UMich courses I tutor. I also offer tutoring for high school mathematics, economics, and statistics courses.
Q: Where do you offer tutoring services, and do you offer in-person or online tutoring? A: I provide online tutoring via Google Meet / Zoom for students anywhere. I am based in Manhattan and have limited in-person availability for students in NYC. I meet virtually with UMich students but will occasionally travel to Ann Arbor to tutor in-person during exam weeks.
Q: What are your rates? A: My standard rate is $100/hour for individual sessions. I also offer small group sessions (2-3 students) at $120/hour.

Teaching
Q: What is your teaching background? A: I have been tutoring consistently for 10 years and am in my third year of doing so full-time. I have had over 350 private students and even more students who have attended my mass tutoring sessions. I typically spend around 1,000 hours in paid tutoring sessions per year and have become quite familiar with the common pitfalls students face in the classes I teach.
Q: What makes your tutoring effective? A: I can explain any of the academic concepts my students deal with in plain English in a way that’s straightforward to understand. A common refrain I hear from students is “it’s so much easier when you explain it.” I focus on helping students build the intuition behind their course content, as I’ve found this style of learning carries over to exam success better than pure memorization.
Q: Do you have any references from past students or parents? A: Absolutely. To protect their privacy, I share references upon request. Contact me and I'll be happy to connect you with past students and parents who can speak to their experience with me.
Logistics
Q: What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy? A: You can view my full terms of service at your convenience. My cancellation and rescheduling policy is as follows:
24+ hours notice: Cancel or reschedule freely through your booking link at no charge.
4-24 hours notice: Contact me directly to cancel, and I will issue a 50% refund. If you wish to make up the session, you will need to rebook at full price.
Less than 4 hours notice/no-show: No cancellation or rescheduling permitted. No refund will be issued.
Q: How long are sessions? A: My standard sessions are 55 minutes long and run starting 5 minutes after the hour (e.g. 2:05pm-3:00pm). This allows me to meet with students back-to-back throughout the day and gives students ample time to handle logistics for beginning the session, such as checking into study rooms. If you’d like a double session, please feel free to book two sessions in a row. In this case, we can work the full time without interruption (e.g. 2:05-4:00pm).
Q: What will be covered during the session? A: We can cover whatever the student finds most helpful during the session. This could include reexplaining any concepts from lecture, doing practice problems together, or going through practice exams to prepare for an assessment.
Q: What should I do to get the most out of the session? A: I recommend making a list of conceptual questions you have on the lecture material and a list of some problems you’re finding challenging. It’s okay if you say “I don’t know anything, so let’s start from scratch”, but students find the most success when they cover as much ground as possible on their own first and then use tutoring to fill in the gaps.
Q: How do private group sessions work?A: Small group sessions are a more affordable option for tutoring (at the current rate of $120, this comes out to $40 per person in a group of 3). One person will book and pay for the session on behalf of their group. The person who books will enter the emails for their group members during checkout, and everyone in the group will then receive an invite with the Google Meet link for the session. I recommend that groups coordinate before sessions on what they’d like to work on so that we can use our time together as efficiently as possible.
